Biography of Bon Jovi

Born John Francis Bongiovi into a working-class New Jersey community, Bon Jovi spent his teenage years dodging school and playing in local rock ’n’ roll groups.
Bon Jovi’s cousin Tony owned the famous New York recording studio ‘The Power Station’ and Jon began to hang around there with his friend David Rashbaum. He was eventually hired as a janitor and it wasn’t long before he was recording demos during studio downtime alongside big-name musicians.
One of the demos recorded there ‘Runaway’ became a New Jersey radio hit and in order to support the song, Jon formed a band, Bon Jovi (de-ethicising his name at the same time).
A bidding war ensued and Jon was signed to Polygram in 1983. The debut album ‘Bon Jovi’ was released in 1984 and ‘Runaway’ became a hit. Tony Bongiovi took the band to court following their success, claiming he had developed their sound.
‘7800 Fahrenheit’ was released in 1985. However, changing the band’s approach and hiring professional songwriters, their next offering ‘Slippery When Wet’ went supernova. Singles such as ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ and ‘Living’ On A Prayer’ dominated the charts.
Now superstars, the band followed it with 1988’s hit ‘New Jersey’. Jon went solo for his 1990 ‘Blaze of Glory’ album, which accompanied the film Young Guns II and earned both Oscar and Grammy nominations.
Back with the band for 1992’s ‘Keep The Faith’ and 1995’s ‘These Days’, Jon released a solo album again in 1997, before the band reformed for the successful ‘Crush and Bounce’.
Jon’s acting career has been mixed in the nineties, with a well-received performance in ‘Moonlight and Valentino’ in 1995, after which he starred in the forgettable ‘The Leading Man’ the next year. Jon also cropped up as the ‘love interest’ in Ally Mc Beal and now divides his time between music and acting.
